RUDY – Following Your Dreams, Achieving Your Goals

As parents, we want the best for our children.  We want to teach them lessons about hard work, determination, perseverance, dreaming big, pursuing your goals, and what it means to succeed.

The other night I got the movie “RUDY” from our library.  It is an older movie, it was released in 1993.  But my husband asked me to get it so we could watch it as a family.  What a great movie!  It teaches all the lessons I mentioned above, and then some.  It is truly an inspirational story. You can check out the trailer below:

The movie is a true story about Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, a boy that had always dreamed about playing football at the University of Notre Dame.  Although he did play football in high school, he lacked the grades and money necessary to attend Notre Dame, and lacked the talent and physical stature to play for their football team – or so he was told.

Despite the discouragement of his family and teachers, who said he wasn’t smart enough, rich enough, or athletic enough to attend Notre Dame and play football on their team, Rudy refuses to let his dream die.  Rather than accept his fate working in a local steel mill, Rudy takes every step he possibly can to follow his dream.  Despite numerous set-backs and rejections, Rudy perseveres.

I highly recommend this movie.  It is rated PG and does contain some profanity, but the life lessons here are awesome.  Although the movie is about football, the principle of pursuing your goals relentlessly can be applied to any life situation.  Rudy is a great role model, and this is truly an inspirational story.

Our family gives RUDY 3 thumbs up.  I’d love to hear what you think and would love to hear about your favorite inspirational movies.

  1. I remember that I saw this movie a few years ago but after watching the trailer you provided I must watch it again. It is a very inspirational story. This is the kind of movie young people should be watching, rather than some of the stupid movies that are at the shows now.
